Embracing Freedom | Navigate Part 7

September 5, 2023

Welcome back to another session of the Navigate Programme blog series! Our journey of self-discovery, growth, and personal transformation continues as we explore the depths of our unique gifts and the profound impact they can have on the world around us. In our previous session, we embarked on a quest to understand the essence of belonging, trust, and vulnerability. We learned that belonging is a journey marked by authenticity and trust, and it’s a foundation that propels us towards personal growth and lasting connections. This content was first written as sessions that were intended to be done in groups within organisations, charities and churches. You can read more about the history and beginnings of Navigate here. Each session is written to equip individuals and groups to navigate life’s complex journey. This blog series is our way of giving you a taster of this content and an insight into what Navigate is all about. If you think Navigate might be useful in your context, do let us know.

In this post, we’ll explore the session centred around changing out mindset. We’re about to embark on an introspective adventure that involves reflecting on the path we’ve travelled, adopting a new mindset, and exploring the dynamics of drama and presence.

Signpost 7: I can experience freedom

As we approach this week’s terrain, remember that our journey is marked by significant signposts. Today’s truth, “I Can Experience Freedom,” is a guiding light on our path of growth and transformation. But before we set out, let’s start with a question that resonates with stories, both real and fictional: What’s your favourite story or movie?

Our journey now leads us to a crucial juncture. We’ll reflect on the roads we’ve traversed, pick up valuable tools, and reshape our mindset to experience the freedom we crave.

In the heart of our journey lies the power of stories—the narratives that shape our lives. Just as characters evolve within a story, we too undergo change. Our focus today is on the Drama Triangle—a model that unveils the characters within our stories. Through a captivating video, we’ll explore the dynamics of drama versus presence.

Our stories often feature characters: the hero, villain, and victim. These roles influence how we perceive and react to life’s challenges. Can you identify with any of these characters in your own narrative? The hero offers temporary relief, the villain blames, and the victim feels powerless. But wait, there’s more to the story…

As we unpack the Drama Triangle, we discover paths of transformation. The hero evolves into a coach, empowering others to find their solutions. The villain transforms into a challenger, and the victim becomes a creator—no longer living at the mercy of circumstances. By identifying and reshaping these roles, we pave the way to freedom.

As we embark on this leg of the journey, remember that every bump in the road is an opportunity for growth, every twist and turn a chance to uncover new perspectives. We’ll continue to explore the depths of our stories, acknowledging our past while focusing on the transformational road ahead. In the next session we explore the importance of recognising that we aren’t alone on the journey, and it’s okay to ask for help. Stay tuned!
