Welcome back to another session of the Navigate Programme blog series! In our previous session, we embraced the transformative potential of habits and their role in shaping our identity. Today, we continue our exploration, focusing on the significance of journeying together and the freedom it brings. This content was first written as sessions that were intended to be done in groups within organisations, charities and churches. You can read more about the history and beginnings of Navigate here. Each session is written to equip individuals and groups to navigate life’s complex journey. This blog series is our way of giving you a taster of this content and an insight into what Navigate is all about. If you think Navigate might be useful in your context, do let us know.
Signpost 11: It’s Better to Journey Together
Our journey is guided by signposts, and today’s truth lights our path: “It’s Better to Journey Together.” As we delve into this session, remember that there’s strength and freedom in shared experiences. Let’s start by celebrating the power of teams. What are the best ‘teams’ you’ve encountered. This question helps us reflect on the value of working together, which is a cornerstone of our collective journey.
Picture a farm with hardworking animals like horses and oxen. A single horse can pull a significant weight, but when joined by another, their combined strength is exponential. Likewise, humans are better together. When we journey alongside one another, we discover three key benefits:
- Encouragement: Others uplift us, helping us embrace gratitude and hopefulness.
- Shared Load: Community lightens our burdens, both practically and emotionally.
- Challenges: People challenge us to grow, offering new perspectives and insights.
The journey becomes richer when shared. This aligns with the concept of belonging (Session 3) and seeking help from one another (Session 8). Our fellow travellers encourage, support, and challenge us, leading to growth and transformation.
As we choose to journey together, we acknowledge the potential for hurt, disappointment, and vulnerability. Yet, these experiences offer opportunities for learning and growth. Trust and vulnerability are at the heart of community (Session 3 & Session 4). Remember, “Free people, free people.” Surrounding ourselves with freedom-minded individuals propels us toward greater freedom.
Pause for a moment of reflection. Consider your emotions about journeying alongside others. Write down your thoughts, answering: How do you feel about journeying together with others?
You might find it useful to ponder these questions:
- What hinders us from journeying with others? What excites us about sharing the journey?
- How does the phrase “free people, free people” resonate with you?
Think back to the ‘buttons’ activity from Session 3. Apply it to this context: Identify the people, places, or resources you would turn to for help and accountability. Consider those with whom you might share your journey to freedom.
As we conclude this session, contemplate your takeaways. What resonates with you as you think about journeying together? How might this impact your path of transformation? Remember that it’s better to journey together. In the next session we’ll consider the journey beyond this point, and how we can take the principles of Navigate forward as we journey on. Stay tuned!
